The purpose of this assignment is for students to explore and critically consider the future commitments and priorities of the social work profession.
Students will review the Grand Challenges for Social Work found at: Grand Challenges for Social Work | Social progress powered by science
Go to the About and History sections to obtain background on how the Grand Challenges came to be and the overall goal of the Grand Challenges.
Once this has been completed, students will select one (1)of the Grand Challenges for Social Work that is of interest to them and obtain more information. Students are expected to review the Brief Description, at least one Concept Paper, and Policy Recommendations. From the above review, write a five (5) page description and analysis regarding the selected challenge addressing the following:
• Key components of the selected challenge (what is the purpose and hoped for outcome at direct practice and policy level);
• Explore and describe its importance to social work and its clients, including assurances of social, economic, and/or environmental justice;
• Specifically address how this challenge may impact Minnesota (or your home state) and its citizens; • Examine how it fits within the context (person-in-environment) for your hoped for/proposed population you plan to serve; and
• Propose how you will become a part of this Grand Challenge during the time of your field placement and beyond (think at least 5 years from now) and consider all levels of practice (individual, family, groups, organizations, and society).
Your paper should follow the APA format. This includes proper use of headings, in-text citations, cover and reference pages, and other aspects for a professional paper.
