Purpose
To analyze and understand the representation of gender roles and cultural norms in various films. Students will explore how films reflect, challenge, or reinforce societal views on gender and culture, and will develop critical thinking skills through film analysis.
Skills
This assignment will require you to use objective observation skills as you watch various movies dealing with gender and culture. You will also demonstrate your ability to analyze gender and culturally related behaviors as you explain their significance. Finally, you will use critical thinking skills to make predictions as to how these movies could impact your own communication and that of others. Your ability to acknowledge and demonstrate these skills will have a positive impact on this and future academic experiences in addition to your personal interactions in multiple contexts. Tasks
You will watch either Disney’s Zootopia or Disney’s Elemental. (Both of these movies are available to Disney+). Watch each film attentively, focusing on how gender and cultural aspects are portrayed. Take detailed notes on key scenes, character development, dialogue, and visual elements related to gender and culture. You will then write a 3 page paper
