Statement of Agreement Overall, I agree with some of the ideas listed that were made in the presentation of “The Power of Introverts” by Susan Cain. Explanation of Agreement 1. I believe introverts do like to be more to themselves, however that doesn’t mean that they are shy. I myself like to believe that I am an introvert and have always been. Even though I consider myself an introvert I am not shy, just more reserved Takahashi 2 and mellow. I am not the type to get rowdy however I will speak my mind when not in agreeance. 2. I agree that we need more introverts in this world, because we need people who have a different way of thinking to get things done that sometimes extraverts can’t do. Introverts have great ideas and do not require a great deal of stimulation to confirm our conclusion, thoughts or ideas. 3. We have leaders such as the famous Rosa Parks who has been described as shy, reserved, and quiet and she was exemplified as passive resistance when she refused to give her seat up to a white passenger on a bus. 4. People often think that being an introvert you have no voice and are shy and timid when we just enjoy peace and quietness to ourselves, we love to think and come up with new ideas. 5. Its true that most jobs and schools prefer introverts over extraverts because they want someone who is more outgoing than to quiet and believe an extravert can get the job done better than an introvert. Introversion is often confused with shyness. Introverts don’t necessarily want to be alone. A new study from researchers at the University of Chicago, and Harvard and Stanford Universities found that introverted chief executives make better leaders. Descriptions of Practical Applications All my life I knew that I was an introvert, I was that person that always wanted to be to herself and wanted to be alone. I’d rather read a book than go outside and interact with everyone else. That’s my personality, I’m not rowdy but more on the reserved side and that’s how I have always liked it; however, that doesn’t stop me Takahashi 2 from being outspoken or speaking my mind or having an opinion when needed. I believe being an introvert can be used in the community in a lot of ways. We need more leaders to be introverts because introverts have so many thoughts and opinions that can differ from extraverts. Extraverts exclude confidence in large groups because that’s where they draw their energy, so they naturally seem like leaders. Introverts have that quiet leadership which is critical to the community for long-term success. As a nurse I plan on using my introvert’s personality to assist patients and their family with anything that they need such as more information, questions or referrals. Description and Explanation of Extension Some of the things that could be elaborated on just a bit more are that introverts are just the opposite of extraverts. Even though it is true that we like to spend time to ourselves we are still the same people who can come out of our shells and get the job done and maybe even better than an extravert. Even though quiet we will fight for what we believe in and still voice out opinions and concerns without being loud. The only differences between introverts and extraverts is we just have a different way of doing things.
