this week is my theoretical review, please use my uploaded document as a reference for what my research paper is about.
This week you will submit your theoretical framework. The following description for this section of your thesis is from the End of Program Manual (EOP):
Theoretical Framework/Approach: The theoretical framework section develops the theories or models to be used in the study and shows how the student has developed testable research hypotheses.
This section should include:
an introduction discussing gaps in the literature, how this study will help fill some of those gaps, and justification for the theory or model to be used in study;
a summary of the theory or model to be used in the study, including a diagram of the model if appropriate; and
a statement of hypotheses to be tested.
The length of this section can vary significantly. If you are using a socioeconomic theory to explain human trafficking, then this section would be shorter than if you were developing your own model. Within the lessons overview folder there are examples of five different frameworks recently used by graduate students.
Technical Requirements
Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content.
Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
Students will follow the current APA Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework.
Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.
All submissions will be graded using the assignment rubric.
Type 1: How many dimensions are there in [a] causal space and which are most important?
Type 2: Further developing/elaborating on an existing theory.
Type 3: Refuting an existing or newly proposed theory.
Type 4: Refuting an existing theory and suggesting an alternative.
While all four types would be appropriate for dissertation work as part of a Ph.D. or other doctoral studies program, types 2 and 3 are appropriate for MA level work. With respect to type 2, one would start by applying a current theory to a particular case or set of cases with the goal of showing how well the theory explains the situation under investigation and would also list its shortcomings. With respect to type 3, one would assess how a new theory is a better fit for explaining a data-set (or case/set of cases) than one or more older theories (Garson, 2012).
The theory or theories you select to guide your study will be integrated into a few areas including your literature review, methods section, and within your discussion sections in your paper. Within the literature review, your goal is to demonstrate your knowledge of the theory, the role it has played within the discipline, and how it can be applied within your study. Within your methods section, “whether you are constructing a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method study, the theoretical framework will often dictate the data collection plan that you develop and will illuminate information within the data” (Grant & Osanloo, 2014, p. 21). Finally, within the discussion section, you will access the overall application of the theory to your study and its implications moving forward.
